Spot the difference – Beyond the design of fitness equipment – Recognising the Replicas
So, you’ve decided it’s time to purchase a piece of fitness equipment for your home or gym, but now that you’re looking, it’s quite overwhelming as the options seem endless, yet somehow all extremely similar… We get it!
So how do you decide?
Despite many fitness products appearing visually similar, one of the things you will notice almost immediately is the variation in pricing. So sure, maybe the cheapest functional trainer you find online might be your first choice, especially if it appears similar to everything else on offer. It is important to recognize though, that no two fitness brands are the same, and that each piece of fitness equipment will have differences that may not be visible to the untrained eye.
There are many of the same fitness equipment replicas on the market, but they are not all made to the same standard, and this is clearly reflected in the variation in price. Most of these replicas come from factories, where product designs are simply copied based on what is already available on the market, with little thought relating to their function and usability. For example, many of the high-quality and innovative Reeplex functional trainers and Reeplex multi-station home gyms, that Dynamo Fitness exclusively sells, have been copied repeatedly, by many manufacturers.
These manufacturers have virtually no research and development processes in place, which allows products to be introduced to the market at a much faster pace and at a fraction of the price of the high-quality original pieces of fitness equipment. Unfortunately, however, the lower cost does usually indicate the quality, function, and usability of the product.
If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is!
Here’s why.
When it comes to fitness equipment, the most important factor is the research and development that goes into its design and production. This does involve time and money though, so naturally, it has a flow-on effect to the price you pay for your fitness equipment.
While it all begins with a design on paper, that then transforms into sample products, the ongoing development of these products is crucial. Carrying out rigorous and continual physical and mechanical testing that mimics real-life use is important to ensure that the products perform as they should before hitting the market.
This part of the design and production process is the key element to ensure the functionality and longevity of the fitness equipment. Something as simple as not having the right distance between the smith machine and the back of the functional trainer can make it extremely difficult for you to use. Often, these manufactured copies which skip the research and development process to bring you the product at a cheaper price are compromising on usability and functionality.
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” – Oscar Wilde
Therefore, it’s important that you consider more than just the price when buying your next piece of fitness equipment.
